Oilgear PVM Pumps Aren't Going Away. Here's Who Builds Them Now.

If you run a press, a machine tool or a test stand with an Oilgear PVM pump, you may have wondered what happens when it needs replacing. Can you still get a new one? Will you have to redesign around a different brand?
The short answer: the Oilgear PVM is still being built. Scott Industrial Systems partnered with Oilgear to offer the PVM product line. We're building and testing them at our facility in Dayton, Ohio.
Why the PVM was worth keeping
Oilgear has built hydraulic equipment since 1921, and the PVM became one of its most practical designs. It is a compact, open-loop, variable-displacement axial piston pump with a few features that set it apart:
- Hard-on-hard rotating group. Hardened steel piston shoes run on a hardened swashblock. That combination resists contamination and supports higher-pressure operation over a longer life.
- Hydrodynamic bearing support. The cylinder barrel rides on a fluid film rather than relying only on rolling bearings, which helps the pump tolerate higher temperatures and low-viscosity or special fluids.
- Wide range in a small package. Three frame sizes and twelve displacements cover roughly 0.66 to 7.94 in³/rev, with pressures to 4,250 psi and speeds to 3,600 rpm.
- Flexible installation. SAE A, B and C mounts, spline or keyed shafts, and rotation that can be changed in the field with a port plate swap.
- Control choices. Pressure compensation, load sensing, remote pressure control and multi-pump arrangements.
Those traits are why so many PVMs are still running decades after installation, and why their owners would rather
replace like-for-like than re-engineer.
What changes for you
Very little, and that's the point. A new PVM from SCOTT is built to the same design, so it fits the same mounting, couplings and plumbing. No requalification, no new drawings, no surprise downtime while a substitute pump is engineered in.
What you gain is a supplier focused on this line.
SCOTT offers:
- New Oilgear PVM pumps in all 12 sizes
- Replacement parts and seal kits
- Repair and rebuild of existing PVM pumps
- Hydraulic power units designed around a PVM
Oilgear PVM vs. Vickers PVM: not the same pump
A quick note, because it trips up a lot of buyers: Danfoss also sells a pump called the PVM under its Vickers brand. It is a different design with different dimensions and part numbers. If your nameplate says Oilgear, you need an Oilgear PVM, and SCOTT is where to get it. Not sure which you have? Send us a photo of the nameplate.
How to get a quote
The fastest way is to send the full model code from the pump's nameplate. If the nameplate is worn, a photo plus your operating pressure and flow is usually enough for our team to identify the pump.

Is the Oilgear PVM discontinued?
No. Scott Industrial Systems is the only partner building and servicing the Oilgear PVM series.
Who makes Oilgear PVM pumps now?
Scott Industrial Systems has an in-house build center for the Oilgear PVM series.
Can you rebuild my existing PVM?
We repair most PVM pumps. To confirm we can service your specific unit, we recommend contacting our service team first.
What information do you need to quote?
Please provide the model and serial number from each pump’s existing tag. If you’re sending multiple units, we’ll need the tag information for every pump.
What is the lead time?
Repair timing depends on parts availability, since every pump has different needs. After we evaluate your unit, we’ll send a written quote with pricing and lead time.
Are Oilgear PVM and Vickers PVM interchangeable?
No. The names are similar, but they’re two different pumps from two different manufacturers.
Scott Industrial Systems is a full-line fluid power distributor, integrator and manufacturer headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, serving industrial, mobile, government and defense customers.
