Auburn Gear Introduces Power Wheel® Model 250 & 350 Shaft & Spindle Output Drives

Auburn Gear Logo

Auburn Gear recently announced two brand new Power Wheel Models: Model 250 & Model 350. These models are shaft and spindle output drives. Shaft drives are designed to meet the power requirements for conveyors, augers, mixers and swing drives. Spindle drives are perfect for vehicles with small diameter drive wheels requiring flange mounts. Such applications include small lift trucks and mowers. Spindle drives can also be applied in applications where bolt on attachment may be more conducive than a splined interface.

Model 250 Specifications:
Max. intermittent output torque: 250,000 lb-in (28,200 Nm)
Max. input speed: 5,000 RPM
Approximate weight: 450  lbs (205 kg)
Oil capacity (horizontal):140 oz (4100 cc)
Oil capacity (vertical): 220 oz (6500 cc)
Max. radial load: (at pref. load center): 36,000 lbs (16,300 kg)

Model 350 Specifications:
Max. intermittent output torque: 350,000 lb-in (39,600 Nm)
Max. input speed: 5,000 RPM
Approximate weight: 470  lbs (215 kg)
Oil capacity (horizontal):130 oz (3800 cc)
Oil capacity (vertical): 210 oz (6200 cc)
Max. radial load: (at pref. load center): 36,000 lbs (16,300 kg)

Depending on the duty cycle and the nature of the application, a normal continuous output torque of 1/3 to 1/2 of the maximum intermittent should yield satisfactory Power Wheel® life. Customer testing and application analysis is strongly recommended. Bolt-on parking brakes are available.

Now Available: Eaton Variable Speed Drive Pump Solutions

Eaton Banner

With the costs of energy steadily rising, energy consumption is playing a more significant role than ever in the total cost of machine operation. As a result, the hydraulics industry is demanding energy efficient solutions that also meet stringent government regulations for environmental protection.

Proven Value and Benefits

• Up to 70% energy savings – Sustainability and cost reduction
• Quieter operation – Improved safety and regulation compliance
• Reduced or eliminated cooling needs – Machine cost reduction
• Pump downsizing – Machine cost and footprint savings
• Eaton standard products – Proven reliability and availability

 Reduced Energy Cost and Consumption

Eaton’s Variable Speed Drive and Pump Systems can help you cut energy usage by up to 70% depending on the machine duty cycle. This can help significantly reduce operating costs, so your investment can quickly pay for itself.

The proven performance and power density of Eaton’s pump families combined with the smart control of Eaton Variable Speed Drives enable these systems to achieve power-on-demand more efficiently than conventional constant-speed drive pump systems. Instead of operating constantly at 1500 RPM or 1800 RPM (depending on the region), Eaton’s Variable Speed Drive Pumps can be controlled to match the load requirements of the current duty cycle via intelligent control. As a result, you can eliminate energy waste.

Reduced Noise Pollution

Noise reduction is another significant benefit of running your pumps at variable speeds. The electric motor and pump speed vary constantly in an Eaton Variable Speed Drive System to match the duty cycle requirement. This results in remarkable noise reduction, which helps protect operators’ hearing and meets more stringent noise regulations.

Reduced Heat Generation

With improved energy efficiency comes less heat production, so these systems can often allow you to downsize or even eliminate oil coolers. Otherwise, they can help reduce the amount of hydraulic oil you use and the size of your tanks, thereby extending the life of seals and oil.

Reduced Pump Size

Eaton’s Variable Speed Drive Pumps open the possibility of downsizing your pumps to cut costs. Because the system can run higher than 1500 RPM or 1800 RPM, you can reduce the pump displacement requirement proportionally for the same amount of flow—shrinking the machine’s overall footprint.

Backed by experienced application engineering, service, training and sales support—as well as the power of one Eaton—Eaton’s proven pump and variable speed drive products can be a powerful combination to resolve challenges in today’s demanding market.

Inside Sales: Friendliness and Communication

Scott Employee Profile:

Michele – Inside Sales

GNG Crest

Accepting a Supplier of the Year Award from Wood-Mizer

Michele Riedlinger is celebrating 20 years at Scott Industrial Systems this year in our Indianapolis Office. Michele is an important member of our customer service and inside sales team with multiple accolades from the company.

Developing Skills:

Michele started at Scott in 1995 with a professional background in customer service. To gain expertise in hydraulics and pneumatics, she had to “learn by doing”. She developed a process with the office manager to learn about the industry and the customers.

At that time, a lot of Purchase Orders and confirmations were still in hard copy format, even with faxing, so she “went in and searched for that order and wrote down everything that was on it […] to get familiar with the actual products and the computer.”

Building Customer Relationships:

This process was the groundwork Michele used to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to interact with her customers.  She describes the rapport that she has with people who call in and talk to her casually or ask her about her vacations, “over the years you build that type of relationship with your customers, and some of your vendors too.”

Developing these skills has helped Michele achieve excellence in customer service. “Sometimes it’s not necessarily the price. It gets you in the door, but it’s the friendliness and communication that holds the sale.”

Company Culture:

Along with emphasizing the importance of maintaining a relationship with our customers and vendors, Michele values interacting with her coworkers in the Indianapolis office. She referred to the group as a “close knit bunch”.

Most of the Indianapolis employees have been with Scott Industrial for over ten years. Michele says that, “with being here so long, we’ve seen a couple people get married and have babies.”

When asked what has kept her with Scott Industrial for so long, she said that almost every day “you get a kick out of somebody, whether it be one of the inside sales people, one of the warehouse guys, or even one of the sales guys. I think that even with just the three people that we have here in inside sales, it’s pretty laid back, it’s pretty easy going, and with us being here as long as we have, we know what we have to do.”

Scott Industrial very proud to have someone with Michele’s knowledge and professionalism serving us in Indianapolis!

Celebrating Our New Expansion

Video Credit: City of Dayton

Scott Industrial Systems held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31st to celebrate a major renovation to their Dayton headquarters. This public event brought together customers, employees, city leaders, and community members to commemorate the 18,000 square foot expansion.

Scott Industrial’s chairman, Randall Scott, took time in the ceremony to discuss the genesis of the company from the home of his parents, Roger and Doris Scott in 1948. Scott’s address focused on the growth of the company and the need for the new expansion.

President Christina Logan then addressed the gathered community members and local news media regarding the recent renovations. Logan put particular emphasis on how it sets up the company for future growth, including larger, more complex engineering projects.

Along with company management, the event also featured remarks from several members of local and state government. Dayton’s City Manager, Warren Price, commended Scott Industrial on renovations based on the efforts and success of the employees rather than relying on public funding. Sandra Brasington, Western Regional Liaison, came with an address from the Governor’s Office. She sincerely thanked the company for focusing growth in the state of Ohio.

Before cutting the ceremonial ribbon, Randall Scott dedicated the building “with great pride, and in memory of [his] mom and dad”.

Founded in 1948, Scott Industrial moved to their current location at 4433 Interpoint Boulevard in 1996.

Capabilities of the Updated Facility:
• Space to stock over $6 million in fluid power products.
• An expanded shop area for hydraulic repair.
• More production floor space for engineering projects.
• Engineering lab.

Scott Industrial Systems to host Ribbon-Cutting for $1M Expansion

jc

Scott Industrial Systems will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31st to celebrate a major renovation to their Dayton headquarters. This public event invites customers, employees, city leaders, and community members to commemorate the 18,000 square foot expansion.

“Our company focus is helping our customers optimize the performance of their fluid power systems and electronic controls,” said Scott Industrial President Christina Logan. “This expansion allows us continue to increase our ability to serve our customers. Scott represents some of the largest fluid power manufacturers in the industry and we stock $6 million in products to fulfill our customer’s immediate requirements.”

A larger shop area strengthens hydraulic repair capabilities and opens the necessary floor space to take on more complicated engineering projects. “We assemble and 100% test cast iron and aluminum gear pumps as well as mobile valve assemblies and can ship within 24 hours in most cases. We provide complete engineered systems including power units and control panels,” said Logan.

Other improvements from the renovations include updated office spaces, a larger, more modern conference room, an improved employee break room area, and a gym with locker rooms. The renovations were completed by John Construction LLC of West Milton.

Along with the building additions, Scott Industrial has added new jobs in the region. According to Logan, “We doubled our engineering staff and added an engineering lab to facilitate programming electronic control systems. With this expansion and added staff, we are poised for growth.”

Founded in 1948, Scott Industrial moved to their current location at 4433 Interpoint Boulevard in 1996. They are a distributor of fluid power products and equipment used in manufacturing. Their six-state territory covers Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The company has around 85 employees, 60 within the Dayton area. Along with the Dayton office, they operate a warehouse and office in Indianapolis, IN and sales offices in Huron, OH and Louisville, KY. Scott Industrial is actively seeking to hire new outside sales representatives in Dayton, Toledo, and Louisville.

The City of Dayton will assist in a ribbon cutting for Scott Industrial Systems on July 31st at 11 a.m. Food and building tours will be available following the ceremony.
